The middle/primary school students have been hard at work. We finished our novel "Fish in a Tree" and the students really interacted with the content.
We have begun reading a graphic novel titled "When Stars are Scattered" a realistic fiction book about two children in a refugee camp in Kenya. The story is written with the consultation of one of the two boys. The students are comparing and contrasting similarities between the children in the book and themselves.
We have also been working hard on figurative language. The students created posters about idioms. They drew the literal meaning behind the idiom and the implied meaning when using the idiom in everyday language. They had a lot of fun creating these and were very creative with the literal meanings.
